Checklist

I’d love to take my laptop with me but it’s the antithesis of everything I want to do on this trip. I’m planning on taking luggage and one backpack with my essentials in it. I’m going to be running around the country (and buying lots of amazing stuff) so I want to travel light!

Things I need to get or take with me when I go (this is by no means a complete list!) …

• Two cameras: a DSLR and a compact. USB and power leads for both, my Gorillapod and several 2/4/6gb memory cards
• Japanese phrase book
• A journal and generous supply of black ballpoint pens
• The guide books on Kyoto and Tokyo that Eri-san sent me
• Frommer’s Japan by Beth Reiber
• Exploring Kyoto by Judith Clancy
• iPhone/iPod and charger
• PASMO card
• Maps
• Travellers cheques and cash
• A good book
• Japan Rail Pass
